And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,

to which indeed you were called in one body.
Colossians 3:15

Put On
Peacemaking

The last phase in a project is the project close. It is as important as all other processes in project management. This phase includes giving gratitude and rewards to the project team, for example.

When Jesus was about to close his mission, he had intense conversations with his disciples – not celebrations but clear instructions. In terms of a reward he gave them peace, his peace. (John 14:27) This unique reward is Christ’s legacy for all of us.

Reading today’s verse in Greek I can understand the words soma (body) and kardia (heart). The peace of Christ hence could be symbolized as the blood that the heart pumps through the entire body (church).

We all know that the heart is a vital organ in our body. And we also understand that each human body only tolerates blood from particular blood groups. In the same way, we, the church (body), can only function in a healthy way with one type of blood (peace) that comes from our Lord Jesus. Therefore, the wrong blood, or even blood loss, threatens life. God wants that peace rules (circulates) in our church pumped by our actions and behaviors.

The next time we offer each other the “peace of Christ” may we be reminded of its command and the giver and may we be thankful for his gift.

Of course, the celebrations are reserved for eternity!

May the peace of Christ be with you.
