Do not lie to one another…
Colossians 3:9
Put Off
Lying
At the bus stop near my house early in the morning, we watch the school children playing around, while we adults talk to one another.
I really enjoy these moments as we socialize and ask questions: “How was your summer holiday?” “Is your mom OK?” “Are your children enjoying school?” “Do you like your new job?”
Then come the many answers: “It was great!” “My mom is getting better.” “My daughter loves her teacher.” “The new job is very demanding.”
Common questions and easy answers.
During my quiet time I ponder these conversations. Were my questions sincere? Were my answers honest?
The Holy Spirit teaches me what to put off and leads me to recall Paul’s words in Colossians: Do not lie to one another. By being sincere and honest I can grow to be more like my risen Lord!
Prayer: Dear Abba Father in heaven, may the Holy Spirit be a mentor for my speech. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
