Life Through the Son
The sign said “Do Not Enter” – and that was exactly where we wanted to enter! It was during one of our visits to a Mediterranean country, where the capital city is divided into two and the territory belongs to two different countries. When entering from one country to the other, one needs to cross via a UN buffer zone; in the buffer zone, there are restricted areas, where only the UN peace-keeping force can enter and it is strictly forbidden to anyone else. And that was exactly where we wanted to go. Had we entered, not only would we have breached the law, but we would also have been considered as spies and kept in custody for a few days at least!
God gave the Law to the people, but it was very difficult for them to abide by it. The righteous requirements of the Law could not be fully met; every year or every time a law was breached, it required a guilt offering or a sin offering as reconciliation. And the priest made atonement on behalf of the one who had sinned. It was very hard to meet the demands of the Law and it was breached time and time again.
The demands of the Law could not be fully met, resulting in condemnation. All people were subject to this for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God! The Apostle Paul said, “But what a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?”
It is Christ! Christ died for us when we were still sinners! Our redemption has been bought by Christ – he paid for our sins through his blood so that we, who are subject to condemnation, can be made righteous in the eyes of God! By faith we have been made righteous!
Christ’s rescue mission continues even after our redemption; he intercedes for us
